Corporate Social Investment

Through our Corporate Social Investment (CSI), we strive to meet important needs – the basic rights to have an education, a warm shelter and a loving, supportive environment.

Foodcorp is a homegrown company; we believe in sowing back into our communities, especially those that are home to our large workforce.  Annually we support well over 130 charities, non-profit organisations, local schools and churches, soup kitchens and animal welfares. We feed the mouths and lift the spirits of thousands of underprivileged South Africans on a daily basis.

At Foodcorp, we believe in ‘soul food’

  • Each year, Foodcorp distributes at least 1 000 food parcels worth more than R250 000 to the elderly, disadvantaged children and families.
  • Over and above this, we provide 3 600kg of cake and bread flour, maize rice and samp.
  • What’s more, over 20 000 loaves of bread were donated. That’s enough for 200 000 sandwiches!
  • Even our four-legged friends at the SPCA and Wetnose receive pet food and meaty treats.

Feeding young minds

Foodcorp supports several education initiatives through bursaries and the sponsoring and upgrading of equipment. This includes the hospitality students at Westcol, computer and vocational training for the blind and disabled through Action for the Blind and the 176 blind and deaf children at the Sibonile School through Jicama 89. The Mageu Number One Junior Leadership Education Programme invested close to R1 million in disadvantaged learners.

Fuelling sports and competition

From the Comrades to the Cape Argus, Foodcorp’s proud sponsorship of the Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club, and our own Glenryk Tygerberg 30km Road Race – we go the extra mile, sponsoring the spirit of competition at national events and across sporting disciplines.

Developing young chefs

Foodcorp is the proud sponsor of the Sunday Times “Chef of the Year” Awards. Through this well-known event, we are able to showcase the talents of the world’s top chefs and prestigious local cooking schools. However most importantly, Foodcorp has the opportunity to develop young chefs from disadvantaged backgrounds together with the South African Chef’s Association.

These young culinary wizards fine-tune their skills at our innovation centre in Cape Town – the 7th Floor – and go on promote African cuisine on the global menu, at functions such as the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
